Gum infections will display some of those signs and some other signs for people to look for. Knowing what to look for could prevent many problems in the future.

Learning the Signs

No one wants to deal with a gum infection, but it can happen. There are several things to look for that are an indication of a potential infection of the gums.

•  Swelling in the gums
•  Tender gums
•  Bleeding gums
•  Pus coming from the gums

These are the signs that are easy to notice. There are other signs that people can ignore or think that they are not a big deal.

•  Chronic bad breath
•  Receding gums
•  Loose teeth
•  Changes in the way teeth fit when taking a bite

The best way to notice these signs is to monitor the teeth and gums regularly and watch for changes.

Preventing Gum Infection

The more a person does to prevent gum infection, the less likely they are to ever see the signs. The things you do to prevent the chances of a gum infection will also help you notice any of the signs that an infection is there.

•  Brush twice a day - It is important to brush regularly, but not brush too aggressively
•  Floss every day
•  Use a mouthwash that prevents gingivitis
•  See our dental professionals twice a year for checkups and cleaning
